My uworld average is 48% for the surgery questions. I find there are more tricks and distractions than I’m used to. 48% puts me at a low percentile, like 4-6th percentile. I need 10th (65% ish correct) on the shelf to pass. I have no way to tell if I’m going to pass or not.

UWorld felt like a lot of "zerbas" questions (things you will never see in practice or on the Shelf. I do like their explanations, so I read them and added the ridiculously rare cases to my notes, but I wouldn't break down ... Just studied it all on repeat. Practice NBMEs. As many as possible. You can look up what organ systems make up the highest percentage of the IM shelf, and allocate your study time accordingly! Finished my exam the book had a lot of low yeild stuff but it got me a few questions exam day I don’t think it’s a must unless you trying go for a top score. Just studied it all on repeat. If it's too much, I would definitely get through Uworld first and supplement only your weak areas with topics from de virgilio. AMBOSS always for surgery and for medicine, and for USMLE step 2. Personally I only did AMBOSS up until a few weeks before step 2 and did better than 50th% on all shelf exams (except OB).
Use AMBOSS surgery questions first, before UWORLD, if you want your main source of learning to be questions and explanations. Then follow it up with UWORLD surgery, GI, and pulm critical care.
