To rule out/in IWE you can do 1 of 2 things. 1. If you have 4A, leave it in 4A. 2. If you don't have 4A, pull the electrical plug to the solenoid on the drivers side firewall. Both should keep the IWEs engaged. See if the noise reoccurs. If it is the IWE grinding it's not urgent but it'll eventually grind itself out and the hub won't lock when you put it in 4x4. I assume you still have warranty being a 2016.
