It scraped off shards of brass and left a lot of brass dust. I called Mec and they sent out a new resizing ring. Look on Mec's website and download the manuals for the respective model you have. If it has a flat base plate and a silver sticker with the S/N then its a pre 82. If it has a slightly raised base plate and doesn't say mk.5 then its a 82-85. If it the base plate say's mk5 then it was after 85. The cloth acts as a cushion making it easy to grab a primer. Complete a shell, grab a primer, drop it in, grab a hull and take off. The Mec 600 is a very simple machine, I'd keep it that way.

I have been shooting sporting clays for about 2 years and new to reloading. I came across a lot of kit at an estate sale. A MEC 600 JR, a tub of hulls, the Winchesters are sorted out, 2 tubs of wads - mostly Winchester, 50# of #8 shot, a box of Cheddite 209 primers, and a large assortment of powders.Set it re-size to .806 to .807, and you will be just right. That's not much of a change, but it will relieve a lot of stress on the collet. As far as the sizing ring on the 600 jr., just take what it gives and if they fit OK, then no problem. The charge bar needs to be clean and if you lube it at all, a little graphite or silicon spray will do the trick. The 600 Jr is about as simple as it gets.
I have 600 Jr. die sets for all of the gauges and use them as needed. The die sets are easy to switch out. It usually takes about 10 minutes once you get up on the learning curve. The Spindex is designed and produced by Mec. I can't conceive of anyone that had the newer design wishing to go back to the old. The adjustable charge bar is a device made by another company that was designed by another company to fit a mec.

Under the 600 Jr, they are item 22-22E IIRC, for the Grabber item #s 86-86D, You're right they don't list them anymore for 12GA in the pre-1982 600Jr or the 700 Versamec. But... if you call them, I believe they will tell you how to update to the later style wad fingers. When I ordered mine they still have several of the old style.
