I have an older (30+ years) Maytag Washer, Model # A308. I called the local Maytag authorized repair and they sent a technician. He believes he knows what the problem is, but cannot remove the agitator. Everything he reads and others he has spoken with say to remove the lock screw holding the agitator to the shaft.
Remove Agitator Bolt. Fit the extender on the socket wrench. Fit the 7/16-inch socket (or whatever size is necessary for your machine) on the end of the extender. Hold the base of the agitator with one hand. With the other hand, fit the socket onto the agitator bolt located deep in the center of the agitator.Turn off the water supply to the washing machine. 3. Remove the agitator cap from the top of the agitator. 4. Remove the screws that hold the agitator in place. 5. Pull the agitator straight up and out of the washing machine. 6.
