Ok so I have an Onan in my 318 a P218 (I think no markings) that is not getting spark. I crank and crank but nothing even with starter fluid. It was running and I was mowing then it lost power like it was on one cyl then came back I though it was fuel related. but no. It did that 3 times.Mount the points and rotate the crankshaft using a wrench on the front bolt that holds the pto pulley in place. Set the maximum gap to 0.020". The points surfaces may need to be cleaned (begin by pulling a piece of paper grocery bag between the points). Check the condenser to be sure it is mounted tightly and grounded.I'd be surprised if your short grounded through and damaged the CDI box. Check battery voltage, 12.7, check voltage at starter wire, disconnected, 12.6. Jumped starter and still same slow cranking.
