I used to own a 05 5.3 Tahoe that I eventually got rid of after buying a 09 Tahoe with a 6.2. The 5.3 got around 1mpg less in the city and highway. I would seriously consider a 6.2 in the SUV, especially if you are going to tow anything. If you get a 09 and up 6.2, you can run E85 instead of premium

It has 260,000 miles and has never given engine trouble. However, it currently has an oil leak, which I've been told is the rear main seal. Apparently, this is fairly common. Also, it's developed an electrical issue or two that are more inconveniences than problems. 1. 200 miles- Oil pan gasket was leaking. Dealer replaced oil pan gasket and checked oil cooler lines for recall. 2. 4,000 miles Radio and instrument cluster recall. 3. 6,000 miles- A/C line (fitting) broke during a hot Texas summer day while driving down the highway.
