In any case for these two reasons amongst others are probably why there's only ONE NCL Epic instead of an entire class of Epic ships. I believe NCL originally contracted for three Epic-type ships & cancelled the remaining two. GF and I sailed in a balcony cabin on the EPIC within the first year of it being launched.

I’d go for deck 12. You have cabins above and below you so it’s quieter. Also, the balconies on deck 8 are quite deep but 1) they are not only right over the lifeboats, 2) all the people on the decks above you can look down on your balcony from THEIR balcony so what’s the point. They (especially Alexander who, sadly for us, had gone to Carnival for more $$) always had a bar full of cruisers having a great time. On the Epic, the bartender (at the main lounge) was very reserved. People rarely stayed to chat.
