This is a walk-through for changing the oil on the VTX. The process is the same for both 1300s and 1800s regardless of model. I have to say thanks to David from the VTXOA for snapping these pics and doing the initial write-up which served as a template for this write-up.

I put synthetic on my first oil change, made the clutch slip. Went back to straight motor oil, had to change it again after 50 miles to flush out the synthetic. PS.

Do this with the bike on its side stand on level pavement, garage floor, etc. Put a pan under the final drive, remove both the oil filler cap and the oil drain bolt. The oil drain bolt is the lower of the two. Drain completely, put the drain bolt and washer back and tighten it. Fill final drive with 4 ounces of SAE 80 hypoid gear oil.
